HUGE NEWS ~ i need your help :)
help inner space tend community well-being in the heart of the midwest!
hello beloveds!
i can finally share the huge news i’ve been hyping for months: i’m buying a studio! and i need your support to do it!
as of jan 1st, i’ll be stepping in as owner and lead caretaker at @ inner space, right here in kansas city! this place is so special, a home to so many, including thousands of students and also a rich bundle of businesses, from artists and healers to hair salons and public health non-profits. i feel so wildly grateful for all the love, labor and practice that has made inner space what it is and for all the ways community has already held and supported us in this process.
AND — we still need your help!
donate if you can
share as intentionally as you’re able with your networks + folks
come party with us! we’re celebrating the solstice, fund-raising and launching our new monthly “sober sock-hops” on thursday, 12/21, 5p-8p with music, mocktails, vegan treats, open studios and pop-up offerings by our tenants + activities for the kids! donate at least $10 for a ticket, kids under 12 free! check out more details + register here.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!
this transition is months in the making, but i’ve known laura, the founder of inner space, half my life. the magic she brought to the diy community in kc was a major influence on my youth and i've long felt a resonance between the ways we both followed art and music into deep study of yoga, movement and spiritual work. if i had opened my own studio, a dream i’ve been nurturing for years, it would probably look a lot like inner space! so it’s a rad and weirdly perfect blessing to inherit an already thriving business and get to steward its next phase of growth.
picture me: scrawny, sensitive, queer kid, born and raised in suburban kansas. i definitely did not feel easy access to yoga or fitness growing up. my early awakenings came through illness after years of self-harm and a life-long alienation from myself. yoga absolutely saved my life. class by class, week by week, i learned to heal myself, found sobriety, sanity and power as something innate that nothing outside of me can take.
in training to teach i discovered a huge chunk of my purpose, but also the truth that i wasn’t alone in my experience. after 10 years of sharing movement, i’m still amazed at how effectively the dominant culture separates all of us from the love, connection and well-being that are our human birthrights, AND how simply and radically holistic practices can bring us back to well-being through loving our bodies, connecting across our differences and collaboratively sharing our gifts.
now, i dream of doing business in the same way i've learned to guide individual health, offering our work in a way that sustains foundations, repairs harm, invites the most impacted to lead their own healing and empowers community at every step. i’ll be sharing much more in the coming weeks on what this might look like, the why’s, how’s and wtf’s of this grand experiement. but FOR NOW —

THANK YOU. SO SO MUCH.
there is no way i could be in this position without all the growth and learning i’ve experienced in all the ways i’ve shared myself with students, clients and audiences in the great many contexts i’ve gotten to do it. this bright, little chapter on substack has been particularly potent and sweet.
thank you for your reading, feeling, healing, growth and all the ways you give love to your body in service of your gifts.
may we all know the embarrassment of resources this planet has to offer us in their least-hoarded, most-divinely-organized, nature-nurturing currents especially the fountain of embodied life force awaiting discovery in that quiet inner space that lives inside each of us <3
xoxo, alexis
